My interview with Amy Oakden on BBC Tees Radio about Daycase Hip Replacement
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in Daycase Total Hip and Knee replacement, Revision Hip and Knee replacement, Uni-compartmental knee replacement, Knee arthroscopy, and meniscal injuries.
I am one of the first few surgeons in the country to specialise in Daycase Hip and Knee replacements. This has enabled me to provide the best quality care to my patients.
I have completed specialist orthopaedic surgery training in North East England. During training, I gained exposure to complex arthroplasty and soft tissue knee procedures. Subsequently, I have also completed the highly prestigious arthroplasty fellowship at Golden Jubilee National Hospital. This fellowship provided exposure to Robotic joint replacements, Computer-assisted joint replacements, Revision, and Complex joint replacements for Hip and Knee pathologies.
I am very passionate about teaching and training. I run an FRCS orthopaedic course at North Tees Hospital. I am also actively involved in organising the Northern basic science orthopaedic course. In addition, I am also involved in teaching MCh orthopaedic students from Teesside University. I am also an educational and clinical supervisor for some of my junior colleagues.
I have research publications in several peer-reviewed journals and have presented research papers at various National and International conferences.
Patient specific treatment
I consider every patient to be unique in their requirements. Therefore I have always tried to provide the best possible treatment choices for every patient. I use current literature and research evidence to make these decisions. I will always listen to you, discuss and prepare a customised plan.
